What Is Acupuncture and How Can It Assist Your Recovery?
The traditional theory behind this practice states that your systemic well-being is heavily determined by the free flow of energy, known as Qi, through specific channels under your skin. When this natural movement becomes obstructed or stagnant, localized discomfort and systemic illnesses begin to emerge, leaving your physical framework completely out of balance.
During a session, these hair-thin needles are left in the body for a short period to achieve a variety of positive stimulations and therapeutic effects. Once the natural flow is successfully restored, your structural systems regain their baseline equilibrium, allowing deep-seated physical issues to resolve naturally.
Many people hesitate to try this care because they assume it involves discomfort. However, there is no pain involved in the use of these needles. They are incredibly flexible and hair-thin in diameter, causing no distress when applied to your body. The practitioners at Ophysio Clinic Orleans are highly skillful, and most of the time, clients do not even feel the insertion. You might notice a mild tingling sensation near the site, which serves as a wonderful sign that the treatment is actively working.
What Is the Difference Between Acupuncture and Dry Needling?
| Feature | Traditional Acupuncture | Dry Needling |
| Historical Origin | Ancient clinical practice with roots in traditional Eastern medicine. | Modern, Western clinical technique based on anatomical principles. |
| Primary Target | Specific energetic points along systemic surface channels. | Localized muscular trigger points and tight neuromuscular knots. |
| Main Objective | Enhances systemic flow, balances internal organs, and manages stress. | Releases acute muscle spasms, decreases stiffness, and expands motion. |
| Needle Placement | Placed systemically and left resting for a set period of time. | Inserted directly into the spasm locally until the muscle relaxes. |
Dry needling is predominantly utilized to release stubborn trigger point pain inside your muscle fibers. By addressing these tight knots directly, the technique decreases structural stiffness, reduces localized ache, and rapidly increases your overall muscle flexibility and range of movement. Your clinician might even combine both styles during a single visit to manage both your local muscle tightness and your overall physical wellness.
